My games tend toward high-danger hijinx and copious amounts of peril; I won’t apologize for it, it’s probably why you are here, but I like stories of nobodies becoming heroes, so you’ll find my selection of optional rules combining things that make my campaigns both more difficult than standard D&D, but also give you the potential of becoming legendary champions by upper levels. For this reason, I give you the opportunity to earn 3-5 extra “ability score advancements/feats” during the campaign.

Mechanic

At each campaign milestone, if your character has earned three or more inspirations due to your successful fulfillment of Personality & Background (roleplaying your alignment, ideals, bonds, personality traits, and flaws) or through Heroic & Entertaining play during progress toward that milestone, you will be awarded an additional choice of ability score advancement or feat.

Reasoning

Feats are fun, everyone likes to have feats, but in 5e, unless your DM allows you to roll 10d6, keep the highest 5, most of your Ability Score Improvements will actually be used on just that, ability scores, while other players might want to develop a chain of feats and they end up being 20th level and still have the ability scores of
